WHO Statistics Are Scary — And They Should Make Us Stop and Think
“43 million people die each year due to lifestyle-related diseases.”
This statistic is more than just a number. It is a wake-up call.
We live in an era where professional success, financial growth and constant productivity have become important parts of our lives. But somewhere along the way, many of us have forgotten an equally important question:
Are we actually living a healthy and balanced life?
I am Dr. Vijay Deshmukh, and over the last 30+ years of my professional journey, I have had the opportunity to meet and observe thousands of people from different walks of life.
I have seen people work extremely hard to build successful careers and businesses, only to realize later that they have neglected their health, relationships, peace of mind or personal happiness.
And this made me think deeply about one important question:
What is the real meaning of success if we lose ourselves while achieving it?
My Realization at 45
One of the most important realizations of my life came when I was around 45 years old.
By then, I had spent decades working, learning, growing professionally and taking responsibilities seriously. But I began to understand that working hard alone is not enough.
We need to learn how to work, how to rest, how to manage stress, how to take care of our health and how to make time for the people who matter to us.
Today, at the age of 58, when I look back at my journey, I realize how many valuable lessons came from those experiences.
That realization became one of the reasons I decided to write this book.
The Hidden Cost of an Unbalanced Life
Today, lifestyle-related health problems are affecting people across the world.
Long working hours, sedentary lifestyles, poor eating habits, lack of exercise, chronic stress, inadequate sleep and constantly being connected to work can gradually affect our physical and mental well-being.
The World Health Organization has highlighted the enormous global burden of noncommunicable diseases, many of which are associated with lifestyle and other preventable risk factors.
But statistics alone cannot explain the human cost.
Behind every statistic is a person.
A professional who never finds time for family.
A business owner who keeps postponing their health.
A parent who is always busy working.
A person who says, “I will take care of myself later.”
But sometimes, “later” comes too late.
Work-Life Balance Is One of the Biggest Challenges of Our Era
We often think work-life balance means simply working fewer hours.
It doesn’t.
Work-life balance is about learning to manage our priorities consciously.
It means understanding when to work and when to pause.
It means taking care of our health while pursuing our ambitions.
It means making time for family and relationships.
It means knowing that professional achievement and personal well-being should not necessarily be treated as two opposite sides of life.
The goal is not to choose between work and life.
The goal is to learn how to live well while working towards our goals.
Why I Wrote This Book

I did not write this book simply to tell people what they should or should not do.
I wrote it because I believe that real change begins with realization.
Over the years, my experiences have taught me that sometimes one realization can change the way we look at our entire life.
We may realize that our health needs attention.
We may realize that our family needs our time.
We may realize that success without peace is incomplete.
We may realize that earning more is not always the same as living better.
And sometimes, we simply need someone to remind us to stop, reflect and ask ourselves:
“Am I living the life I actually want to live?”
Get Your Realizations
My purpose behind writing this book is simple:
I want every reader to get their own realizations.
Your realization may be different from mine.
It may be about your health.
It may be about your family.
It may be about your career.
It may be about your priorities.
Or it may simply be the realization that you deserve to make time for yourself.
Because when we become aware of what needs to change, we can begin to make better choices.
Take-Home Message
Don’t wait for a major health problem, a personal crisis or a life-changing event to make you stop and think.
Get your realizations today.
Understand your priorities.
Take care of your health.
Value your relationships.
Work with purpose.
Make time for yourself.
And most importantly, learn to create a life where success and well-being can exist together.
This book is a reflection of my experiences, observations and realizations over more than three decades of professional life.
If even one realization from this book helps someone live a healthier, happier and more balanced life, I will consider its purpose fulfilled.
Read the book. Reflect on your life. Get your realizations.
For anyone looking for self help books that inspire personal growth, better life choices and a healthier work-life balance, this book can be a meaningful read.
